Layer 2 blockchain · settles to Ethereum
Manta Pacific ticker MANTA
Summary
Layer 2 on Ethereum built with Caldera's customized OP Stack (op-node and op-geth). One sequencer orders transactions into L2 blocks; a batcher posts the transaction data to Celestia and a transaction root to an inbox address on Ethereum, falling back to Ethereum if Celestia is unavailable, per L2BEAT. A permissioned proposer posts output roots to the L2OutputOracle contract on Ethereum. No fault or validity proofs are deployed, so the contracts accept whatever root the proposer submits; a challenger key can delete roots, and withdrawals finalize after a challenge period. A September 2025 upgrade added a finality contract meant to shorten that period with signatures from MANTA and BTC staking quorums; L2BEAT's note on that upgrade judged it a partial deployment not yet in use. Block production uses no stake or work of its own. 461113192628
Design
- System
- Layer 2 blockchainManta Pacific (chain ID 169) is a layer 2 on Ethereum built on Caldera's customized OP Stack, live since 12 September 2023. Since December 2023 its transaction data goes to Celestia, with transaction roots on Ethereum, and no fault or validity proofs are deployed; L2BEAT calls it an optimium outside its rollup categories. ETH pays gas; MANTA is the governance token. A move to a zkEVM validium built with the Polygon CDK, announced in October 2023, has not happened. Manta Atlantic, Manta's former Polkadot chain, is a separate network not covered here.
- Settles to
- EthereumOutput roots are posted by a permissioned proposer to the L2OutputOracle contract on Ethereum, and deposits and forced transactions enter through the OptimismPortal contract there; transaction data lives on Celestia, with only transaction roots on Ethereum. Withdrawals are proven against a posted root and finalized after the challenge period, which L2BEAT reads as 3 days on chain while Manta's bridge FAQ says about 7 days. With no proofs, Ethereum does not check that the roots are correct.

- Who makes blocks
- One sequencer and one output proposer, single keys that Manta's contract page says Manta Technologies manages; a third such key is challenger, guardian and system configuration owner. L2BEAT says only whitelisted proposers can publish state roots, so withdrawals freeze if the proposer stops. A 5-of-7 multisig owns the Ethereum contracts' proxy admin; L2BEAT lists the challenger key among its signers and labels another Caldera. The fast-finality design adds operators backed by MANTA (via Symbiotic) and BTC (via Babylon) to sign state roots; their rewards ended on 20 May 2026.
- Fork choice
- No open L2 fork choice: sequencer blocks are canonical, and the chain is derived from batch data on Celestia referenced by roots on Ethereum, where Ethereum's own fork choice applies. L2BEAT says users can force a transaction in through the portal contract on Ethereum, with up to a 12-hour delay.
Qualifications
- Scarce resource · Not applicable. Recorded as other. Manta Pacific's own terms: blocks come from one sequencer key registered in the system configuration contract on Ethereum and managed by Manta Technologies, so block production uses no stake or work of its own. Manta's fast-finality design added MANTA delegated through Symbiotic and BTC staked through Babylon to back operators signing state roots, but it does not choose block producers, slashing was not active and rewards ended on 20 May 2026.
- Finality · Partial. Recorded as other. Manta Pacific's own terms: a transaction is executed at once by the sequencer, its batch data is stored on Celestia, a state root is published to Ethereum, and the root is treated as final only after an optimistic challenge period. Manta's fast-finality design would shorten that period with aggregated BLS signatures from MANTA and BTC staking operators; no fault or validity proof backs the roots today.
- Withdrawal window · Contested. Manta's bridge FAQ and fast-finality page describe a 7-day challenge period. L2BEAT, reading the Ethereum contracts after the September 2025 upgrade, says the challenge period is set to 3 days and that the new finality contract could cut it to no less than 12 hours; L2BEAT's note on that upgrade said the feature appeared not yet used.
- Stack and proof system · Contested. Manta's introduction and roadmap pages still describe security through a zkEVM and a planned move to a zkEVM validium built with the Polygon CDK, announced in October 2023. L2BEAT's September 2026 page describes an OP Stack chain with no state validation, whose contracts permit invalid state roots. No Manta source reporting the migration as done, cancelled or deferred was found.
- Data availability · Partial. Full transaction data is posted to Celestia and transaction roots to Ethereum. L2BEAT says the roots are not checked against Celestia's Blobstream bridge, so the sequencer alone could publish roots for unavailable data, and that the sequencer falls back to Ethereum if Celestia is unavailable. Replica node operators can run a Celestia light node to sample the data themselves.
- Fast finality · Partial. Manta published a dual-layer fast-finality design and operator software, and a September 2025 contract upgrade added a finality contract that can shorten the challenge period for individual state roots. L2BEAT's note on that upgrade judged the feature a partial deployment not yet in use, and Manta's staking docs say rewards for the operator program stopped on 20 May 2026.
Tradeoffs
- Emphasizes
- Scalability
- Gives up
- Security inherited from Ethereum and decentralized operation: no proof system checks the state roots, transaction data sits on Celestia behind roots that the Ethereum contracts do not check against Celestia's validators, one sequencer and one permissioned proposer run by Manta Technologies operate the chain, and a 5-of-7 multisig can upgrade the Ethereum contracts with no delay. L2BEAT says Manta Pacific does not meet its Stage 0 requirements. The scalability emphasis refers to Manta's stated aim of cutting data costs by publishing transaction data to Celestia. Funds in the canonical bridge depend on the proposer, the challenger key and the multisig signers acting honestly; L2BEAT also warns that critical contracts can be upgraded by a single key: the finality contracts that can shorten the challenge period for selected state roots.
- Full node at home
- Unknown 13142326Manta documents a replica node made of op-node and op-geth container images, with an optional Celestia light node and a data snapshot from January 2024; its latest update log covers the Ecotone upgrade configured for September 2024, and it points to a third-party Notion page for current instructions. Manta's hardware requirements page has no content. L2BEAT says no available node software can rebuild the chain's state transitions from the published data, so the system cannot be verified independently. Current disk, memory and bandwidth needs were not found.
- Throughput claims
- Unclassified 2Unclassified; do not compare.Manta's docs say the chain processes thousands of transactions per second with parallelized execution; no figure, method or window is given.A marketing statement with no number, test setup, hardware or bandwidth assumptions. The same page describes the chain as secured through a zkEVM, which the deployed contracts do not show, so its technical claims need independent checking. No evidence of parallel execution in the production client was reviewed.
- Observed window: 0.25 26Observed in the stated window only; not capacity.User operations per second as counted by L2BEAT (UOPS), not raw transactions.Past-day figure shown on L2BEAT's Manta Pacific page when retrieved on 2026-09-29.Measures demand during one day, not capacity. Capabilities
| Capability | How it is provided | Notes and sources |
|---|---|---|
| Account abstraction | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| Atomic swaps | Unknown | A protocol-level trust-minimized swap mechanism on Manta Pacific was not reviewed; EVM contracts could implement hash-locked swaps, but none was verified. |
| Authenticated data publication | Unknown | Not yet assessed under this row's current definition. Manta's contract list includes the Ethereum Attestation Service system contracts, which record attestations in chain state, and data held only in chain state does not count. The transaction data Manta Pacific posts to Celestia is Celestia's feature, not Manta Pacific's. 11 |
| Light clients | Unknown | No Manta Pacific light client was reviewed. State roots on Ethereum come from one permissioned proposer with no fault or validity proofs, so checking Manta Pacific state against them would trust that proposer. Replica nodes can run a Celestia light node, which samples data availability but does not verify Manta Pacific state. 1326 |
| Native staking or delegation | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| On-chain governance | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| Parallel execution | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| Payment or state channels | Unknown | No payment or state channel layer anchored to Manta Pacific was reviewed. |
| Programmable spending | Native (protocol or core-team software) Earlier definition | Manta Pacific runs EVM smart contracts and says standard Ethereum contract code runs without modification, so spend conditions are written as contracts. Its docs list small behaviour changes, such as aliasing of senders from Ethereum contracts and a mempool visible only to the sequencer. 89 |
| Protocol-verified messaging | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| Reversible transfers or recovery | Unknown | Not yet assessed under this row's current definition. Manta's bridge FAQ says a started withdrawal to Ethereum cannot be cancelled; general payment reversal and account recovery on Manta Pacific were not reviewed. 16 |
| Rollups | Unknown | Chains that settle to Manta Pacific were not reviewed. Manta Pacific itself is a layer 2 on Ethereum; its settlement is described in the mechanism and Ethereum dependency notes. |
| Shielded transfers | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| Signed partial offers | Unknown | Not yet assessed under this row's current definition. Manta's contract list includes a deployment of OpenSea's Seaport order contract on Manta Pacific; whether it is used there, and how its signed orders settle, were not reviewed. 11 |
Reading these values
- How this feature is provided
- Built into the protocol, core-team software or independent software says where a feature lives and who can change it. These are implementation layers, not quality: core-team software is not closer to the protocol than independent software.
- Structured assessment pending
- The shared review has not assessed this feature for any chain yet (Account abstraction, Native staking or delegation, On-chain governance, Parallel execution, Protocol-verified messaging and Shielded transfers). That does not mean it is absent, and a chain’s profile may already describe it.
- Unknown
- The review has not established this for this chain under the current definition; the note beside it says why. Unknown is not absent and not a low score. A feature reads “Not present” only when a source shows it is absent.
- Earlier definition
- Payment or state channels, Programmable spending and Rollups keep the earlier definition until the next fact-check. There, “Native” does not separate the protocol from core-team software, “Ecosystem software” does not say who publishes it, and “Partial” does not say which layer.
- Reading across rows
- The list of capabilities is incomplete. Do not read these rows as a chain leading or lagging overall.
Ecosystem & custody
| Product type | Status | Notes and sources |
|---|---|---|
| Automated market makers | ThinQuickSwap V3, iZiSwap | QuickSwap's contract list includes a Manta Pacific deployment (factory, router and position manager), and DefiLlama's protocol list shows QuickSwap V3 and iZiSwap as the largest by value locked among the exchanges it tracks on Manta. Recorded as thin because the tracked venues together hold little liquidity; trading volume was not measured. 2930 |
| Issuer-native stablecoins | None found | Circle's USDC contract list, Tether's supported-protocol list and the USDT0 deployment list do not include Manta Pacific. Manta's token list gives Ethereum contract addresses for the USDC, USDT and DAI on Manta Pacific, so they are bridged from Ethereum, not issued on the chain. 12313233 |
| Algorithmic stablecoins | Unknown | Manta's token list includes other dollar tokens (iUSD and wUSDM) bridged from Ethereum; their backing, current status and use on Manta Pacific were not reviewed. |
| Bridges | Native to the protocolManta Native Bridge (standard bridge and portal contracts on Ethereum) | ETH and ERC-20 tokens move between Ethereum and Manta Pacific through the chain's own bridge contracts; deposits take minutes, and withdrawals are proven against a posted state root and completed after the challenge period. Manta's docs also list third-party routes (LayerZero, Hyperlane, dappOS, Orbiter, Rhino.fi and Owlto); their current support was not checked. Risk: No proof system checks the state roots that withdrawals rely on, so bridge funds depend on the permissioned proposer and on the challenger key, which can delete roots and pause withdrawals. L2BEAT reports that a 5-of-7 multisig can upgrade the bridge contracts with no delay and no exit window, that a single key can upgrade the finality contracts that can shorten the challenge period, that withdrawals freeze if the proposer stops, and that transaction data on Celestia is not checked on Ethereum. The withdrawal wait is disputed: 3 days on chain per L2BEAT, about 7 days per Manta's FAQ. 11161726 |
| Block explorers | ThinManta Pacific explorer (Blockscout), OKLink | Manta's docs list several explorers. The Blockscout-based explorer at pacific-explorer.manta.network answered an API request at review time. OKLink's Manta Pacific page returned only a page shell with no chain data to the review tools, the SocialScan and L2scan addresses did not respond and the DexGuru address returned 404, so no second explorer was verified serving data. Explorer indexes are not canonical consensus. 153435 |
| Hardware wallets | ThinTrezor Safe 3, 5 and 7 (through MetaMask or Rabby) | See custody rows: Trezor lists the Manta Pacific network and points users to MetaMask or Rabby, and Trezor Suite's network list does not include it. Ledger Wallet's code has no Manta Pacific network; search engines list a Ledger support article on connecting a Ledger device to Manta Pacific, but its text loads by script and could not be read for this review, so Ledger is not counted here. 363738 |

Manta ends rewards for the MANTA staking program behind Manta Pacific's fast-finality design
Manta's staking pages now say the Manta Staking program is being sunset and that staking rewards stopped on 20 May 2026. The program let MANTA holders delegate to operators running Manta's Symbiotic finality-provider software, one half of a design in which staked MANTA and BTC back signatures on Manta Pacific state roots to shorten withdrawal waits. Operators may shut down their nodes, and delegators can unstake through the staking dashboard. Manta's docs history shows operator setup guides added from October 2025.
- Implementation:sunset notice added to the staking docs on 14 May 2026
- Release:not a software release
- Activation:rewards stopped on 20 May 2026, per the notice

Manta retires its Polkadot chain and consolidates MANTA on Manta Pacific
Manta announced that it would not renew Manta Atlantic's Polkadot slot, which was due to expire around 1 August 2026, and would focus all development on Manta Pacific. The FAQ scheduled the end of Atlantic staking and the closing of inbound transfers for March 2026 and offered a migration app to move MANTA and other assets out; MANTA left on Atlantic is to be credited one-to-one to Manta Pacific addresses from a chain snapshot. In September 2026 Manta's site says Atlantic has sunset and sets 16 November 2026 as the deadline to migrate remaining MANTA. The FAQ says Manta Pacific itself is unaffected.
- Proposal:announced on 11 March 2026
- Implementation:migration app linked from Manta's site; the FAQ scheduled Atlantic staking and inbound transfers to close in March 2026
- Release:not a Manta Pacific software release
- Activation:site banner says Atlantic has sunset; final MANTA migration deadline 16 November 2026

Manta launches Manta Labs, an application program not tied to Manta Pacific
Manta announced Manta Labs to build and incubate consumer applications and to support developers on whichever chain suits each app, including chains other than Manta's own. The post named two apps it had incubated, SUPERFORTUNE and Junk.fun, and promised support for developers regardless of platform. By September 2026 Manta's home page leads with Incognitive, an on-device AI assistant, alongside Manta Pacific.

Known gaps
What this profile's review did not establish:
- Whether the move to a zkEVM validium built with the Polygon CDK, announced in October 2023, was cancelled or deferred is not stated in any Manta source found; Manta's roadmap page still describes it.
- Manta's docs (about 7 days) and L2BEAT's reading of the contracts (3 days) disagree on the withdrawal challenge period; an actual withdrawal was not timed.
- Whether the finality contract added in September 2025 has ever shortened a challenge period, and what happens to it now that operator rewards have ended, was not found.
- The relationship between Manta Technologies, p0x labs, the Manta Foundation and Caldera, and the identities of the 5-of-7 multisig signers beyond L2BEAT's labels, were not sourced.
- Current node hardware needs were not found: Manta's hardware page is empty, the replica guide's last update log concerns the Ecotone upgrade in September 2024, and the third-party Notion page it links was not read.
- Whether the exact node software running in production is published as source was not checked; L2BEAT says no available node software can rebuild state transitions from the published data.
- No block interval, maximum reorg depth or typical time for batch data to reach Celestia and roots to reach Ethereum was found in Manta's docs.
- How the fee that covers data publication is calculated now that data goes to Celestia is not documented beyond a pointer to generic OP Stack fee docs.
- Ledger: Ledger Wallet's code has no Manta Pacific network, and a Ledger support article on connecting to Manta Network (listed by search engines) could not be read because its page loads by script; a readable copy would likely move the Ledger row to a third-party wallet route.
- Trezor coverage of older models and contract interactions on Manta Pacific was not reviewed.
- The third-party bridges Manta lists (LayerZero, Hyperlane, dappOS, Orbiter, Rhino.fi, Owlto) were not each checked for current Manta Pacific support.
- DEX liquidity depth was not measured, and iZiSwap's own documentation was not checked for its Manta Pacific deployment.
- Backing and current status of other dollar tokens on Manta Pacific (iUSD, wUSDM) were not reviewed, and stablecoin issuers beyond Circle, Tether and USDT0 were not checked exhaustively.
- Three explorers listed in Manta's docs (SocialScan, L2scan, DexGuru) did not respond or returned 404 at review time.
- Atomic swaps, signed offers (including the Seaport deployment in Manta's contract list), reversible transfers and recovery, data publication, channels and chains settling to Manta Pacific were not reviewed.
- Sequencer outage history was not reviewed beyond L2BEAT's 30-day liveness panel, which showed one short gap in data submissions on 23 September 2026.
- Manta's Universal Circuits and zkSBT developer tools are described in its docs, but their current availability on Manta Pacific was not verified.
