Layer 1 blockchain
OKT Chain ticker OKT
Summary
A Tendermint-based BFT chain (the public node runs exchaind v1.7.0.5 on a Tendermint 0.33.9 fork) built on the Cosmos SDK with EVM and WebAssembly contract engines. Validators are chosen by OKT holders who add vote shares to them; the active set updates every 252 blocks. A block commits when validators with more than two thirds of voting power precommit it. Governance cut the active-set cap from 21 to 7 in late December 2025, set block rewards to zero in September 2025 and shortened unbonding to 20 minutes. Both slashing fractions are zero, as they already were in the chain's January 2021 genesis file. Over the 44 days to 27 September 2026, blocks arrived about every 3.8 seconds. 910121314162122
Design
- System
- Layer 1 blockchainOKT Chain (earlier OKExChain; chain ID exchain-66, EVM chain ID 66) is a Cosmos SDK chain with its own consensus and an EVM. Its sponsor has wound it down: in August 2025 OKX converted exchange-held OKT to OKB and said the chain would run until 1 January 2026, and staking rewards stopped on 17 September 2025. X Layer is a separate chain. Public endpoints still returned new blocks from seven validators on 27 September 2026 and no halt notice was found, so it keeps the layer-1 class, with operating status contested.

- Who makes blocks
- Seven bonded validators on 27 September 2026 (monikers Nodeplus, Chillcrypto, Unique farming, Defilego, Hydrus, DeLab and Tombolo), each holding about 14.3% of voting power; the operators behind these names were not verified. Registering a validator needs a 10,000 OKT self-delegation, but only the seven with the most votes are active.
- Fork choice
- No open weight-based chain selection: each height is committed by more than two thirds of the seven validators' voting power, so any five of seven can finalize a block and any three can halt the chain.
Qualifications
- Operating status · Contested. OKX said the chain would keep operating until 1 January 2026 and told users to move assets before then, and it has stopped staking rewards and liquid staking. Public endpoints still returned new blocks on 27 September 2026. No later official notice of a halt or of continued support was found.
- Scarce resource · Partial. Validators are selected by OKT vote shares, but slashing fractions are zero and block rewards have been zero since September 2025, so little economic value is at risk or earned by validating.
- Finality · Partial. The chain's Tendermint BFT consensus gives single-block finality while fewer than one third of voting power is faulty, which with seven equal validators means at most two. There is no slashing, so the guarantee rests on the operators rather than on penalties.
- Settlement family · Partial. Built with the Cosmos SDK and a Tendermint fork, with IBC modules, but users mostly see an EVM interface: 0x addresses, EVM contracts and chain ID 66. It does not settle to Ethereum.
- Throughput · Unknown. No current, sourced and classed throughput figure was found, so none is recorded.
Tradeoffs
- Emphasizes
- Scalability
- Gives up
- Decentralization and economic security. Seven validators of equal weight produce every block, nothing is slashed for misbehaviour, and no block rewards have been paid since September 2025. The sponsoring exchange has withdrawn support, and 2025 governance changes passed within minutes of submission.Fast blocks and low fees came from a small BFT validator set on a chain built and sponsored by OKX, although OKX's own risk notice says it does not control the chain. Slashing fractions were already zero in the January 2021 genesis file, so bonded stake was never at risk through the protocol; since the 2025 wind-down, block rewards are gone too and security rests on the goodwill of the remaining seven operators.
- Full node at home
- Unknown 7814The official mainnet guide publishes no CPU, memory, disk or bandwidth figures. It recommends starting from a published snapshot and warns that syncing from genesis takes long; the snapshot index it links returned an error on 27 September 2026. The chain's genesis block is height 2,322,601 on 15 January 2021; the public node served blocks from there but refused state queries for past heights, so it is not an archive node. A full node verifies the chain but does not join consensus.

Capabilities
| Capability | How it is provided | Notes and sources |
|---|---|---|
| Account abstraction | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| Atomic swaps | Unknown | No trust-minimized cross-party swap mechanism was verified. EVM contracts could implement hash time-locked swaps, and the chain has a built-in AMM module, but a pool swap is not a cross-party atomic swap. |
| Authenticated data publication | Unknown | Not yet assessed under this row's current definition. |
| Light clients | Built into the protocolLimited scope | Tendermint commits and IBC: consensus produces what a light client checks, since a block commits with precommits from validators holding more than two thirds of voting power, and the chain includes IBC, whose on-chain light clients verify counterparty chains; governance replaced the client for the Crescent network in April 2024 (proposal 101). Limited: OKX discontinued its IBC transfer product in July 2024, current channel status could not be read, and no user-facing light client for OKT Chain itself was reviewed. 41623 |
| Native staking or delegation | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| On-chain governance | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| Parallel execution | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| Payment or state channels | Unknown | No payment or state channel layer anchored to OKT Chain was found. IBC channels are messaging paths, not payment channels. |
| Programmable spending | Native (protocol or core-team software) Earlier definition | On 27 September 2026 the chain's parameters allowed anyone to create and call EVM contracts (no deployment allow-list) and to upload WebAssembly contracts. Both engines keep a governance-managed blocked list. 161718 |
| Protocol-verified messaging | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| Reversible transfers or recovery | Unknown | Not yet assessed under the current definitions; no protocol mechanism for a sender to reclaim or delay a payment, or for an owner to regain control through a recovery path set up in advance, was verified. Governance can block listed contracts and contract methods, which is a network-wide control, not a reversal or recovery feature for users. 17 |
| Rollups | Unknown | Unknown under the rule that absence needs a source: the earlier note said absence was not exhaustively verified. No rollup settling to OKT Chain was found; X Layer, which OKX positions as overlapping with OKT Chain, is an OP Stack layer 2 that publishes its data to Ethereum, not to OKT Chain. 124 |
| Shielded transfers | Structured assessment pending | Not yet assessed for any chain. |
| Signed partial offers | Unknown | Not yet assessed under this row's current definition. |
Reading these values
- How this feature is provided
- Built into the protocol, core-team software or independent software says where a feature lives and who can change it. These are implementation layers, not quality: core-team software is not closer to the protocol than independent software.
- Structured assessment pending
- The shared review has not assessed this feature for any chain yet (Account abstraction, Native staking or delegation, On-chain governance, Parallel execution, Protocol-verified messaging and Shielded transfers). That does not mean it is absent, and a chain’s profile may already describe it.
- Unknown
- The review has not established this for this chain under the current definition; the note beside it says why. Unknown is not absent and not a low score. A feature reads “Not present” only when a source shows it is absent.
- Earlier definition
- Payment or state channels, Programmable spending and Rollups keep the earlier definition until the next fact-check. There, “Native” does not separate the protocol from core-team software, “Ecosystem software” does not say who publishes it, and “Partial” does not say which layer.
- Reading across rows
- The list of capabilities is incomplete. Do not read these rows as a chain leading or lagging overall.
Ecosystem & custody
| Product type | Status | Notes and sources |
|---|---|---|
| Automated market makers | ThinOKT Chain built-in AMM swap module | The chain has a protocol-level AMM swap module with a 0.3% pool fee and 39 pools. On 27 September 2026 most pools held small balances or were empty, and whether the module still accepts swaps was not tested. Third-party EVM exchanges on the chain were not verified. 61920 |
| Issuer-native stablecoins | None found | Neither Tether's supported-protocol list nor Circle's USDC contract list includes OKT Chain. A USDT-named token exists in the chain's own token module and native pools, but its issuer and backing were not verified, so it is not counted as issuer-native. 202829 |
| Algorithmic stablecoins | Unknown | A USDK-named token appears in the native pools, but its design and issuer were not reviewed; no algorithmic stablecoin with material use was verified. |
| Bridges | Unknown | The chain includes IBC, but OKX discontinued its IBC transfer product on 1 July 2024 and current IBC channels could not be read. OKX's exchange accepted OKT deposits for conversion to OKB until 1 January 2026; that was a custodial exchange route, not a bridge. No working third-party bridge was verified. Risk: Assets that were bridged or mapped onto OKT Chain depend on the issuer or bridge operator still honouring redemptions, and the sponsor told users to withdraw on-chain assets before 1 January 2026. The chain itself is secured by seven unslashed validators, so bridged value also depends on them. 2416 |
| Block explorers | ThinOKLink OKT Chain explorer | OKLink runs an OKT Chain explorer page. Its live data could not be read by this review because the page renders in the browser, and no second explorer was verified. Explorer data is indexed by its operator and is not consensus. 25 |
| Hardware wallets | ThinTrezor (OKT Chain network through MetaMask or Rabby) | See the custody section: Trezor's OKB page lists OKT Chain as one of OKB's networks, and Trezor Suite has no OKT Chain network, so a Trezor reaches the chain through MetaMask or Rabby. No Trezor or Ledger page for OKT, the chain's own coin, was found. 262730 |
Hardware-wallet custody
| Device maker | Status | What users can and cannot do |
|---|---|---|
| Ledger | UnknownSame as native: Unknown | Ledger coin pages tried for OKT returned not found, and Ledger's OKB page names no networks. Using a Ledger through a general EVM wallet on chain ID 66 may work, but no Ledger source confirming it was found. 27 |
| Trezor | Through an intermediaryMetaMask or RabbySame as native: Unknown | Can: Use a Trezor on the OKT Chain network through MetaMask or Rabby: Trezor's OKB page lists OKT Chain among OKB's networks, and OKT Chain is not a Trezor Suite network in current Suite code Cannot: Manage OKT Chain in Trezor Suite: current Suite code has no OKT Chain network Cannot: Rely on a Trezor page for OKT, the chain's own gas coin; none was foundThe shared vendor baseline left this row unknown because Trezor's OKT page returned an error. Trezor's OKB page, a vendor page that lists the OKT Chain network beside Ethereum and X Layer and names Trezor Suite, MetaMask and Rabby, is used instead; since Suite has no OKT Chain network, the path runs through the third-party apps. 2630 |

Governance cut OKT Chain's active validator cap from 21 to 7
Four on-chain governance proposals between 24 and 29 December 2025 lowered the maximum number of bonded validators from 21 to 20, 16, 10 and finally 7. Each passed within about two minutes of submission with roughly 70% of voting power in favour.
- Proposal:passed on-chain (proposals 107 to 110)
- Implementation:parameter changes applied through governance
- Release:no software release required
- Activation:active; seven bonded validators observed on 2026-09-27

OKT Chain staking rewards ended and unbonding was cut to 20 minutes
On 17 September 2025 on-chain governance set OKT Chain's reward deflation rate to zero, brought the next reward recalculation forward to block 38,892,300 so the zero rate applied at once, and cut the unbonding period to 20 minutes, after an earlier cut from 14 days to one day on 5 September. OKX Web3 said staking rewards stopped at 12:00 (UTC+8) that day and that its OKT liquid staking service had stopped staking and redemptions.
- Proposal:passed on-chain (proposals 103 to 106)
- Implementation:parameter changes applied through governance
- Release:no software release required
- Activation:active; no block rewards and a 20-minute unbonding period observed on 2026-09-27

OKX said it would stop supporting OKT Chain and converted exchange-held OKT to OKB
On 13 August 2025 OKX said it would gradually stop maintaining and supporting OKT Chain because it overlaps heavily with X Layer. OKT trading on OKX stopped that day, and from 15 August 2025 OKT held on the exchange was converted to OKB at the average closing prices from 13 July to 12 August 2025. OKX said the chain would remain operational until 1 January 2026 and that on-chain OKT could be deposited for conversion until then. On 27 September 2026 a public OKX node was still producing blocks, and no later OKX notice about the chain was found.
- Implementation:OKT trading stopped on 13 August 2025; conversion of exchange-held OKT to OKB began on 15 August 2025
- Release:no shutdown software release or halt height observed
- Activation:OKX's stated operating period ended on 1 January 2026; a public node still reported new blocks on 2026-09-27

Known gaps
What this profile's review did not establish:
- OKX's FAQ (updated 6 August 2026) still says the chain operates until 1 January 2026, yet blocks were still produced on 27 September 2026; no official statement on who now runs the chain or how long it will continue was found, and OKX's latest-announcements index (16 July to 23 September 2026) listed no OKT Chain notice.
- The operators behind the seven validator names were not verified, and whether validators use the optional consensus IP allow-list added to the node software in July 2024 is unknown.
- OKT Chain's former documentation site on okx.com returned not found; protocol details here come from the node repository, OKX announcements and public endpoints instead.
- No hardware or bandwidth requirements for a full node were found, and the snapshot index linked from the mainnet guide returned an error.
- Current IBC channel status could not be read (the public endpoint refused the query), so whether any IBC route still works is unknown.
- Ledger support for OKT was not found on any Ledger page; Trezor lists OKT Chain only as a network for the OKB token, and which app handles that network is inferred from Trezor Suite code.
- Whether OKX's conversion of deposited OKT to OKB still operates after 1 January 2026 was not verified.
- Third-party EVM exchanges, bridges and wallets on OKT Chain were not verified, and whether the built-in AMM module still accepts swaps was not tested.
- Issuers of the USDT-named and USDK-named tokens in the chain's token module were not verified.
- Atomic-swap, reversible-transfer or recovery, channel and algorithmic-stablecoin surfaces were not reviewed in depth.
- No sourced, classed throughput figure was found, so no throughput claim is recorded.
